I recently got a chance to join Alaska Airlines in a partnership with Disney Park as they took their Star Wars theme aircraft on its inaugural flight down to Disneyland for a fun May 4th Star Wars themed livery flight. The plane was filled with other bloggers, their plus ones, media and giveaway winners who both were both wildly obsessed with Star Wars and Disneyland.
I had personally never been to Disneyland, hadn't watched a Star Wars movie (ever), but was and am very passionate about Alaska Airlines, whom is my airline of choice so I was so honored and excited to be invited. The trip was scheduled just days after my 40th birthday, so I decided to invite the person I have the most fun with, my sister Melinda, and give myself the gift of experiencing Disney for the first time as "Tash, the person," instead of "Tash, the mom."
When Alaska Airlines puts on an event, they spare NO expense and every detail was so thoughtfully executed to the pre-flight fun events featuring Star Wars characters, full staff dressed in and on theme and a really fun and decked out plane for the 2 hour flight to Orange County. They gave us all the things we needed to prep, prepare and drink in the excitement of it all, including Star Wars themed Mickey Ears, welcome guides and yummy themed foods and treats. I even got a chance to meet other influencers that I had been following for years online.
Disneyland is a magical place that appeals to people of all ages, and there are many things that adults can do while visiting the park. All of this time, I never made Disneyland a priority because I thought it was a place for kids and families but you can truly have a blast, and even more so, as an adult - if you know what to do, go with the right people and have an awesome plan. It gives you a chance to tap into the child in you and discover and embrace all that magic that makes Disney so special.
There are so many things to do at Disneyland, if you are an adult reading this post considering going for the first time, here are a few of my suggestions:
Enjoy the attractions: Disneyland has a wide variety of rides and attractions that are suitable for adults, such as the classic rides like Space Mountain, the Matterhorn, and the Indiana Jones Adventure, as well as newer attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
Explore the entertainment: Disneyland offers a variety of entertainment options, such as parades, fireworks shows, and stage performances. Some of the most popular shows include the "Fantasmic!" night-time spectacular and the "World of Color" water and light show.
Dine in style: Disneyland has a wide variety of dining options, from casual quick-service restaurants to more upscale dining experiences. Some popular adult-friendly options include the Blue Bayou Restaurant, which is located inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and the Carthay Circle Restaurant, which serves up California-inspired cuisine. Give yourself several weeks to book reservations in advance as dining options book up fast!
Shop till you drop: Disneyland has so many fun shops and boutiques that offer a wide range of Disney-themed merchandise, from clothing and accessories to home decor and collectibles and so many of the items are exclusive to the parks and resorts so be sure to tap into them.
Take a tour: Disneyland tours that take you behind the scenes of the park, such as the "Disney's Walk in Walt's Disneyland" tour which takes you on a journey through the park and shares stories about Walt Disney himself. I didn't know much about Walt Disney previous to this trip, if I am being honest, I hadn't seen many of the Disney classics, but after learning about his vision for Disneyland, it made me all the more intrigued and I came home ready to research.
Enjoy the California Adventure Park: Disneyland has a second park, the California Adventure Park, which offers more adult-friendly attractions, such as the Cars Land, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, and the Pixar Pier and they also have phenomenal food and adult beverages that make riding those more thrilling rides a bit easier. You can purcahse a Park Hopper pass to go back and forth between Disneyland and California Adventure Park. Be sure to make your reservations for each park and to read the fine print as rules are always changing.
Overall, Disneyland is a magical place that offers something for everyone, whether you're a child or an adult. So, don't hesitate to have fun, enjoy the rides, the entertainment, the food and the overall atmosphere.
Have you ever gone to Disney sans kids? What are some of your fave attractions, shops and rides? Tell me in the comments so I can add them to my future itineraries!
With wisdom and courage, for His glory,
